You and Microsoft 365 Copilot, better (and smarter) together

Copilot combines the power of large language models (LLMs) with your data in the Microsoft Graph and Microsoft 365 apps. In layman's terms, Copilot blends powerful programs that understand and generate human-like language, with the trusted Microsoft applications you use everyday.

You can ask it – in natural language - to summarise notes or Teams meetings, draw up action lists, write those everyday emails for you, or automate processes. Or ask it to scan your entire universe of data (from emails to meetings, chats to documents, and everything on the web) to help you solve problems at work.

Put simply: It turns your words into the most powerful productivity tool on the planet.

Why choose Copilot for Microsoft 365?

Effortless productivity

From creating PowerPoints to writing content to segmenting target audiences, writing meeting notes, issuing summaries and emails, and writing code, Copilot saves time and effort. It empowers your users to get more out of the apps and their day.

Unbounded creativity

Copilot offers users – whether brainstorming as a group or generating individual content pieces - new ideas and perspectives. From generating blog topics to social media posts based on specified keywords, topics, and preferred styles – even those who struggle to express themselves on paper can have their say and say it well.

Closer collaboration

With Copilot, you’ll all get more done more quickly together. Copilot for Teams can capture and summarise the key points of any meeting and call out actions and owners, so you’re all on the same page. Ask Copilot to convert meeting content when using Microsoft Whiteboard or suggest ideas on the go. Or to set up and name a shared workspace and allocate editing permissions. All without clicking a single button.

Frequently asked questions

What is Microsoft Copilot?

Launched in February 2023, Microsoft Copilot is a generative artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot (also referred to as an AI assistant or companion). Copilot combines the power of large language models (LLMs) with the in-house enterprise data you generate through Microsoft Graph and your Microsoft 365 applications.

There are currently three main versions: Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Pro, and Copilot for Microsoft 365 (previously known as Microsoft 365 Copilot).

How to use Microsoft Copilot?

Once enabled, simply click on the Copilot icon in your taskbar or open Copilot via your browser or the mobile app, and you’re ready to get started. By enabling voice on your device, you can ask it questions or type in your request for it to perform a task like summarising the actions from a Teams meeting, finding information, creating visual or written content, or even supplying code.

To maximise the business value you get from Copilot, we recommend you engage in partner or Microsoft-supplied training.

Is Microsoft Copilot free?

Microsoft Copilot is free. Features include chat with text, voice, and image capabilities, the ability to summarise documents and web pages, image creation in Designer (formerly Bing Image Creator), web grounding and the use of plugins and Copilot GPTs.

Copilot Pro is subscription-based and designed for individual users. The features are the same as Microsoft Copilot but include faster responses during peak usage times, support for selected Microsoft 365 apps (the web versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and specific Outlook accounts).

Copilot for Microsoft 365 is also subscription-based – but you need a Microsoft 365 Business Standard or Business Premium subscription first. It includes all the features of Microsoft Copilot, as well as Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook, Copilot in Microsoft Teams, enterprise-grade data protection, Microsoft Graph grounding, as well as customisation and extensibility through Microsoft Copilot Studio.

For inclusions, exceptions, and conditions, please refer to Microsoft for the full details.

What are the differences between Copilot and ChatGPT?

First – what are the similarities?

OpenAI developed both ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot in partnership with Microsoft, so it’s no surprise that the technologies behind them are similar. Both are natural language processing tools driven by generative AI and powered by large language models (LLMs). Similarly, ChatGPT’s functionality differs depending on the subscription you select (Free ChatGPT, ChatGPT Plus, and ChatGPT Enterprise).

However, each serves a different purpose. ChatGPT is primarily a chatbot that can interact with users to create content and do research in multiple languages. Whereas Copilot, due to its tight integration with the Microsoft ecosystem, is designed to enhance everyday productivity.

What are the benefits of using Copilot for Microsoft 365?

Copilot for Microsoft 365 helps you manage the busyness that hinders your ability to be productive. Some of the everyday benefits you (and other users) will experience include:

  • Being more effortlessly creative: Using Copilot in Word enables you to never again have to start with a blank page. Copilot can generate suggested content based on your parameters, ready for you to review and edit. It can edit content back to the required length, alter the tone, or pull in more information as requested.
  • Perfecting your presentations: With a few simple prompts, Copilot in PowerPoint helps you to create beautiful presentations, even adding relevant content from other documents you created earlier.
  • Analysing and visualising data: Copilot in Excel enables you to analyse trends and create professional-looking data visualisations in seconds.
  • Freeing yourself from your inbox: Clear your inbox in minutes. Copilot in Outlook can not only summarise long email threads but also draft a reply for your review.
  • Making meetings more productive: Copilot in Teams can summarise key discussion points (along with who said what), including points of agreement and dissent, and suggest actions arising from the meeting.
  • Automating repetitive tasks: With Copilot in Power Platform, you can automate repetitive tasks, create your own chatbot, and turn app ideas into working prototypes within minutes.

How can Microsoft Copilot enhance Dynamics 365?

Copilot offers significant productivity and performance gains for Dynamics 365 users. From enabling your support agents to deliver exceptional customer care to generating market insights for your marketing team, automating operations processes, and proactively flagging external issues that will affect your supply chain, Copilot drives more business value from your CRM, ERP, Customer Service, Sales, and Supply Chain applications.
